Wells Cathedral School

Powderham Castle’s incredible Music Room was the venue for a concert given by young wind-players from Wells Cathedral School.   What a setting, and what a concert!   The highly talented young musicians gave us a programme of wind quintets (flute, oboe. clarinet, horn and bassoon) and pieces for brass sextet (3 trumpets and 3 trombones) ranging from the 17th century to the present day.  There were also  some solo and small-group items, showing, if possible,  yet more dazzling virtuosity.  Even jazz made its appearance.  I left Powderham walking on air, musing that the players were not only technically brilliant but oozing musicality.    They surely have a bright future in the world of music.
